Huawei Pura 80 Ultra Could Feature RYYB Sensor for Main and Periscope Cameras
Huawei’s upcoming Pura 80 Ultra could come equipped with RYYB-powered sensors for both its main and periscope cameras. The company has been testing various new sensors for its next-generation flagship, and recent leaks provide fresh insights into its camera advancements.
The Pura series has long been known for its exceptional photography capabilities, and Huawei aims to enhance this reputation with the Pura 80 Ultra. According to tipster DigitalChatStation, the device will feature RYYB sensors in both the primary and periscope lenses, ensuring superior light sensitivity and image quality.
Huawei is reportedly testing an RYYB sensor for a 1-inch main camera, along with a 1/1.3-inch ultra-large periscope lens. The Pura 80 Ultra may also incorporate a new variable aperture technology to optimize light intake, delivering brighter and clearer shots in low-light and nighttime conditions.
Previous reports suggested that only the periscope lens would feature RYYB technology. However, the latest information indicates that Huawei may extend this capability to the main camera as well, further enhancing the device’s photography potential.

RYYB Sensor
An RYYB camera sensor utilizes a unique color filter array consisting of red, yellow, yellow, and blue filters. This configuration allows the sensor to capture significantly more light compared to a standard RGGB (Red, Green, Green, Blue) sensor. As a result, it enhances low-light photography and delivers exceptional night shots with improved clarity and detail.
Beyond low-light performance, RYYB sensors also improve dynamic range, enabling a broader spectrum of light levels in a single image. Additionally, they contribute to more accurate color reproduction, enhancing the overall photography experience.
Pura 70 Ultra Camera Setup
Huawei previously integrated RYYB technology into the Pura 70 Ultra’s periscope lens, while the main camera featured a 1-inch CMOS sensor, sensor-shift OIS, an F1.6-4.0 variable aperture, and an innovative retractable mechanism.
For the upcoming Pura 80 Ultra, Huawei appears to be expanding RYYB technology to both the main and periscope cameras, potentially redefining its flagship photography capabilities. Whether these leaks hold true will become clear in the coming days. Stay tuned for more updates.
